Political analyst Mr Samuel Boateng has described the election by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to expel Prof. Frimpong Boateng as excessive.
He stated that the former minister may have misconducted himself with his remarks that the party was currently fake.
But expelling him from the party, he argued, was needless. In his view, there were other better ways the party could have punished the founding member of the party.
Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Mr Boateng posited that the party was going through a crisis and this would exacerbate its crisis. “This is a needless decision.
“The NPP is not in a good place, and so they have to tread with caution on some of the decisions it takes. Prof. Boateng is a founding member of the party, and that should play a role in how he is treated. This decision is not in the interest of the party. Politically, it is a terrible decision by the NPP.”
He admitted that the description of the NPP as fake by the heart surgeon was not the best but believes he was expressing concern over the lack of leadership from the party.
Mr Boateng noted that the decision to expel him is an attempt to punish him, describing it as unfortunate.
He said some members had made far worse comments compared to what the professor said but have not been punished. Political parties, he added, are running with members, and so parties must avoid activities that will reduce their numbers.
“He could have been cautioned and not expelled. The party seeks to return to power, but what they are doing now will not benefit them in securing that power. They are losing political popularity and it must therefore take time in changing the narrative. Politics is about the numbers game and if he is expelled, those who love and cherish him and are affiliated with the party may also leave with him. The party should also examine itself and ask if there is some form of truth in what he said.”
