Celebrated Ghanaian actor Adjetey Anang has revealed that his refusal to accept nude or extremely provocative movie roles is rooted in his personal principles and Christian upbringing.
According to the veteran actor, nudity is not a prerequisite for a believable performance.
He maintains that there are several creative ways an actor can deliver a compelling character without resorting to “excess”.
Speaking in an interview with host Eddie Ray on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM’s mid-morning show, Annan explained his stance.
“This is a personal principle for me. Filmmaking is an act. If you see two people in a movie, you can easily tell they are a couple; you can see the chemistry. It doesn’t mean we have to see all the graphic images of them kissing or removing their clothes. I don’t think we have to tell such stories with those offensive scenes for our audiences.”
Beyond his personal faith, Annan highlighted the psychological impact these scenes can have on performers.
He noted that actors are “flesh and blood”, and the lines between fiction and reality can sometimes blur in ways that create lasting discomfort.
“I am not comfortable with such offensive scenes because most of the time, actors and actresses are flesh and blood. You will realise after the shooting and the final cut is given, there are those who would still have these [images] in their heads, which could lead to other issues.”
Adjetey Anang clarified that this boundary is not a recent development or a result of marital pressure; rather, it is a principle he has held since the beginning of his career, long before he married.
While he acknowledged that other actors may feel comfortable taking on such roles, he concluded by reaffirming that his personal comfort and values remain his priority.
