Lambert Appiah Rockson, a former New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the Ablekuma South Constituency, has launched a scathing critique of President John Dramani Mahama, labelling him a failed leader whose return to the presidency has exacerbated the hardships faced by Ghanaians.
The aspiring parliamentary candidate posited that a man who was previously granted the opportunity to govern, only to be voted out for gross incompetence, ought to have reflected on his past failures to emerge as a more capable statesman.
However, Mr Appiah Rockson contended that President Mahama’s second term, far from delivering development, employment, or economic transformation, has instead been characterised by unprecedented levels of corruption, scandal, and the abuse of public office.
During an interview on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM, he remarked that the president’s performance has exposed a fundamental lack of preparedness for the demands of high office.
“The level of leadership we have witnessed so far proves clearly that he was unprepared to be president. He got the presidency on a silver platter. Nothing is working. I had hopes that as someone who was once a president, and considering the incompetence he exhibited while in office, his return would have made him a better president; however, he came in as the same old incompetent leader.”
Referencing the “Big Push” scandal and allegations concerning road projects—where costs were reportedly inflated by 81 per cent—he accused the administration of engaging in a massive looting of state resources.
He further asserted that these financial discrepancies would be subject to rigorous investigation under a future NPP government.
The former candidate also criticised the government’s handling of the Burkina Faso tomato export ban. He argued that a visionary leader would have ensured domestic agricultural self-sufficiency rather than leaving the nation in a position where it must plead for the lifting of a ban to secure basic food imports.
Speaking to the host, Kwabena Agyapong, he maintained that Ghana is currently gripped by a severe crisis, with citizens lamenting the soaring cost of living, particularly the high prices of electricity, water, food, transport, fuel, and rent.
“Nothing is working. This is a scandalous government. Nurses and teachers have worked and yet have not been paid. Graduates are crying for jobs which are not available. Ghanaians are crying and waiting for the NPP to come and save them in 2028.”
