In a move to provide immediate relief, Baba Jamal, the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, has announced that victims of the recent fire outbreak at the Nima Market in Accra will receive financial support.
The lawyer and lawmaker pledged to provide GH¢5,000 to each affected trader following a personal visit to the scene of the tragedy.
He noted that these funds are intended to help the merchants revive their businesses and recover from the extensive destruction caused by the inferno.
Beyond immediate financial aid, Jamal emphasized the need for a long-term solution by calling on the government to facilitate the construction of an ultra-modern market for the constituency.
He argued that such a facility would significantly improve trading conditions while implementing better safety standards to prevent similar disasters in the future.
Addressing the situation on the ground, Jamal stated: “Seeing that this is a serious tragedy that has affected our people last night, my MCE and NADMO officials all rushed here and were able to help. But you can see that some serious devastation has taken place. I want to send my heartfelt sympathies to the people who have lost their wares, and also to all the people who are in this market. I call on the government, our president, and the entire nation to come and assist in these difficult times. A few people who have been affected, they have given me their list. And so on my own, I want to offer GH¢5,000 to each of the victims in the interim.”
