File an RTI request if you doubt Sedina Tamakloe is in jail, Garu Lawmaker asserts

Thomas Winsum Anabah, the Member of Parliament for the Garu Constituency, has challenged individuals doubting the incarceration of former MASLOC boss, Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, to file a Right to Information (RTI) request to satisfy their curiosity.

He strongly refuted assertions that the convict, who was sentenced in absentia to a ten-year jail term for multiple financial crimes, is receiving special treatment rather than serving her time.

Speaking on the program As It Is in Ghana on Rainbow Radio (87.5FM Ghana and 92.4FM), the lawmaker stated it is ridiculous for anyone to suggest that Tamakloe-Attionu is being held at a secret location instead of a correctional facility.

According to him, the available facts confirm she is currently in custody while simultaneously appealing her sentence on grounds of an unfair trial.

“This question of Ghanaians wanting to know where Madam Sedina is beats my imagination,” Anabah stated. “Ghaians wanted Sedina brought to the country. The government did all it could to bring her as a convict who is to serve a ten-year jail term. The definite place for her to be would be with the Prisons Service… So I don’t see why someone should be wondering where Sedina is.”

The legislator noted that anyone seeking validation can demand answers directly from the Prisons Service, which maintains the records of every prisoner in its custody.

“Go to the Prisons Service,” Anabah advised. “There is what we call RTI. Go and use it to ask the Prisons Service where Sedina is located. They are obliged to tell you where she is located.”

For fellow Members of Parliament demanding answers, he pointed out that they have the parliamentary privilege to file urgent questions and summon the Interior Minister before the House to respond formally.

Meanwhile, the Garu MP slammed the Minority for allegedly celebrating former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s acquisition of a US Green Card, stating that Ofori-Atta is simply running away from accountability. He subsequently challenged the Minority to press Ofori-Atta to return home and face them directly.
