The Vice Chancellor of the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Tarkwa, Prof. Bernard Kumi-Boateng, has revealed that the institution will implement a rigorous dress code for undergraduates starting from the upcoming academic year.

Addressing journalists, Prof. Kumi-Boateng expressed deep concern over what he characterised as “near nudity” among female undergraduates and “unconventional” grooming styles adopted by male students.

“Men Are Coming To You Mad Class With Plated Hair, Earrings, And Our Female Students Are Almost Naked. Let Me Give You Another Bomb,” the Vice Chancellor remarked.

He further warned: “If You Are From UMAT, Listen Carefully. From Next Academic Year, You Can’t Dress That Way To Class.”

Prof. Kumi-Boateng explained that the forthcoming regulations aim to safeguard decency, professional standards, and the public standing of UMaT.

He emphasised that university authorities will take a firm stance against attire and personal appearance that erode the core values of the institution.

The development has triggered widespread debate among the student body and key stakeholders regarding institutional discipline versus individual freedom of expression within higher education.

The university authorities are set to publish comprehensive guidelines outlining the revised dress policy prior to the start of the new academic year.
