July 30, 2026
WAEC

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the provisional results for candidates who sat for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates.

According to an official press statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, Mr John K. Kapi, the Council will dispatch the results to respective schools through the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Directors of Education.

Candidates who wish to access their performance online can also log onto the Council’s official portal.

“The West African Examinations Council wishes to inform its numerous publics that it has released provisional results of candidates who sat for the BECE for School Candidates, 2026,” Mr Kapi stated in the release.

A total of 620,243 candidates—comprising 304,415 males and 315,828 females from 20,789 participating schools—registered for the national examination.

The total entry figure includes 136 candidates with visual impairment, 282 with hearing assessment needs, and 510 candidates requiring other test accommodations. The examination was administered across 2,237 centres nationwide, with 3,601 candidates recorded absent.

Addressing issues surrounding examination irregularities, the Council disclosed that decisions were taken following the completion of full investigations into cases detected during the writing of the papers and the marking of scripts.

The sanctions were approved during the 37th Meeting of the Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee for the BECE, 2026, held on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.

Following the Committee’s review, the Council approved the cancellation of subject results for 496 candidates, alongside the total cancellation of the entire results of 105 candidates.

In addition, subject results for 119 candidates and the entire results of 48 candidates have been withheld.
The Council further stated that the subject results of an additional 2,722 candidates from 229 schools remain withheld pending further scrutiny.

“The withheld results may be cancelled or released based on the outcome of investigations by August 31, 2026,” the statement highlighted.

Affected candidates whose results have been cancelled or withheld have been directed to visit the designated online portal at irreg.waecgh.org and click on the “withheld/cancelled” tab to view the specific reasons for the action. Heads of schools and proprietors can also monitor the status of withheld results using their official listing logins.

WAEC also sounded a stern warning to parents, candidates, and the general public regarding scammers who promise to alter examination marks.
“The Council wishes to caution all stakeholders to be wary of fraudsters who promise to upgrade results for a fee.

Candidates are to note that WAEC results are secured and can be authenticated,” Mr Kapi cautioned.

The examination body expressed its gratitude to key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service, security agencies, heads of schools, supervisors, invigilators, and examiners, for their support throughout the conduct of the examination and subsequent release of results.
