Supreme Court’s scrapping of delegate system is a win for Ghana’s democracy – Analyst

July 30, 2026
supreme-court

He said the apex court deserves commendation because, in his view, much of the corruption in politics stems from the so-called delegate system.

Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he said that if someone willingly decides to join a political party, such a person should be allowed to participate in all party activities and should not be denied the opportunity simply because he or she is not a delegate.

According to him, the ruling will strengthen democracy in the country, and it is a decision that Ghanaians should be proud to celebrate at any time.

The analyst stated, “This day marks a glorious, joyous, and exciting moment in our lives as Ghanaians. This is a victory for Ghana’s democracy and we must express our gratitude to the Supreme Court of Ghana. This was a cancerous situation which the apex court has dealt with. We thank them a lot because members of political parties must be allowed to participate in every activity and should not be limited to a few. We need to pour our powder on them and celebrate them. They have been bold and firm in their judgment. The outcome of this case must allow our parties and their members to be in good standing,” he stated.

He noted that the issue of monetization in our internal elections has remained a threat to transparent and accountable governance.

He said politicians who share money and assume power find ways of recouping their investments, and that delays development and progress in our country.

He advised political parties to put in place measures to implement the directives of the court.
