Former Buffer Stock Boss Fails to Halt Trial as Cyber and NSS Cases Progress

An Accra High Court has dismissed an application for a stay of proceedings filed by Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, the former Chief Executive of the National Food Buffer Stock Company, clearing the way for his trial to resume next month.

Aludiba, the first accused in the high-profile Buffer Stock case (Republic v Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba & Anor), had asked the court to halt proceedings pending the determination of an appeal against an earlier ruling that rejected his motion to strike out the charge sheet.

The prosecution, led by Deputy Attorney-General Alfred Tuah-Yeboah, opposed the application, arguing that the defense failed to establish any compelling legal grounds for a suspension.

Presiding over the matter, the trial judge dismissed the motion on the basis that no exceptional circumstances had been demonstrated to justify a stay.

The case has been adjourned to August 12 and 14, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. for continuation.

In a separate courtroom, cross-examination of the fourth prosecution witness continued in the trial of the former Director-General of the Cyber Security Authority, Kwabena Adu Boahene, and two others (Republic v Kwabena Adu Boahene & 2 Ors).

The court granted the defense a final window—spanning August 11, 12, and 13 at 11:30 a.m. each day—to conclude its cross-examination of the witness, after which the prosecution is expected to formally close its case.

National Service Secretariat Trial
Meanwhile, proceedings in the National Service Scheme corruption trial (Republic v Gifty Oware) reached a crucial milestone as defense counsel concluded the cross-examination of the state’s third witness.

With three witnesses discharged, the prosecution is now set to call its fourth and final witness when the trial resumes on October 27, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
