The “Globe of Tomorrow” legacy project of the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) has officially been launched.

Speaking at the launch, the Co-conference Director for the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) Working Week Conference 2024, Surveyor Stephen Djaba, said this initiative is a testament to our commitment to education, sustainability, and global unity.

The speaker explained that the “Globe of Tomorrow” project aims to erect a globe statue within a basic school in Accra, Ghana, to commemorate the FIG 2024 Congress.

He indicated that this statue symbolises the interconnectedness of our world and serves as an inspiration for students to learn about geography, cultures, and the significance of surveying in understanding our planet.

“The journey to bring “The Globe of Tomorrow” to life has been one of collaboration, creativity, and dedication. From the design phase, where local artists and surveyors came together to create a visually striking and geographically accurate globe, to the community engagement workshops that fostered a sense of ownership and excitement among students, teachers, and parents—every step of this project has been a labour of love.

One of the key objectives of “The Globe of Tomorrow” is to inspire and educate the younger generation. By integrating the globe statue into the school curriculum, we aim to spark curiosity, instill a sense of global awareness, and foster a deeper understanding of the world around us. From scavenger hunts to interactive lessons, this project offers endless possibilities for experiential learning.

Today, as we unveil “The Globe of Tomorrow,” we do so with great pride and anticipation. This ceremony is not just about the physical manifestation of our efforts but also about celebrating the values it represents—education, sustainability, and unity. We are honoured to have FIG representatives, local dignitaries, school stakeholders, and the media join us on this momentous occasion.”

He said the materials chosen for the construction of the statue reflect the Federation’s commitment to durability and environmental responsibility.

“As we look to the future, sustainability remains at the forefront of our minds. The materials chosen for the construction of the globe statue reflect our commitment to durability and environmental responsibility. By establishing a maintenance plan and ensuring ongoing engagement with the school and local community, we aim to preserve the legacy of
“The Globe of Tomorrow” for generations to come.”

He further encouraged Ghanaian students to use the opportunity to consider a career path in the field of surveying.

He noted that surveying offers exciting opportunities for growth, innovation, and meaningful contribution to society.

“Additionally, let us use this opportunity to encourage our young students gathered here today to consider the field of surveying as a career path. Surveying offers exciting opportunities for growth, innovation, and a meaningful contribution to society. Let us support and empower our youth as they embark on their journey of discovery and learning.
