Private legal practitioner and author, lawyer Tachie Antiedu, has advocated the introduction of scholarship schemes to help persons seeking legal education, especially those with poor backgrounds access the Ghana School of Law.
The lawyer speaking on Frontline in Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm admitted that legal education is expensive and could deprive people of accessing it.
He told host Kwabena Agyapong that “we need to have a lawyer in every family. But if legal. education is expensive, we will not be able to achieve it. Legal education is expensive but we need to put in measures to reduce the cost”.
Lawyer Antiedu noted that the books purchased by student lawyers are expensive, and the school fees are also costly, hence the need for authorities to consider schemes to help reduce the burden on students excpecially deprived persons.
“We need scholarship schemes for legal education. We need to ensure that we train more lawyers because at least we should have a lawyer in every family. So we need systems to ensure that people have access to legal education. The cost of legal education should not be expensive,” he stressed.
