The Shama Chiefs and traditional leaders joined residents and drivers to express their displeasure with the district’s roads.
The Nyamekrom, Abuesi, and Shama traditional leaders led the protest.
They obstructed the main thoroughfares to Nyamekrom and the capital of the Shama District.
Local drivers bemoaned that they generate daily revenue only to spend it on repairs and spare parts.
Red-clad protesters chanted songs, demanded immediate road repairs, and wielded placards with several inscriptions.
Some of the inscriptions read ”Why are punishing us”; The bad road to Shama is total wickedness’; Are we aliens; OOO Why the neglect?; Enough of the deceptions’ among others.
Later, the police intervened, and the roadblocks were removed to relieve traffic congestion.
Residents and drivers urged the government to repair all of the deplorable roads in the affected communities, citing the impact on their livelihood.
