‘Adabraka robbery was an inside job executed by professionals’ – Criminologist

November 4, 2024
opoku ware

Dr. Jones Opoku-Ware, a criminologist and lecturer at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), believes that the armed robbery that occurred over the weekend in Adabraka, a suburb in the Greater Accra Region, may have been an inside job.

He stated that an examination of the robbery incident and the video, as well as the manner in which the robbers behaved, revealed that it was an inside job.

He also explained that the armed robbery was executed by professionals who have been in the armed robbery business for several years.

Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Dr. Opoku-Ware told host Kwabena Agyapong that over 80 to 90 percent of armed robbery cases are inside jobs where persons closer to those attacked give information to the armed robbers.

”If you look at how the robbery was carried out, you can conclude that it was an inside job. As an analyst, those working at the attacked facility have questions to answer. If the police want to conduct an investigation, they should consider arresting the workers there. Everything suggests to me, as a criminologist, that this was an inside job. Someone close to the business owner could be the culprit. According to the information I have gathered, this was not the first time the business had been attacked. They’ve been attacked before, which tells me there’s someone there who’s been feeding the information to the armed robbers,” he explained.

Dr. Jones Opoku-Ware maintained that “the timing and manner in which the robbery was carried out were carefully planned.””Those who robbed the jewellery shop knew what they were doing, so they wasted no time.”

He also suggested the reason why the armed men sprayed some of the cash was to distract people from following them.

”When you look at criminal psychology, you’ll notice that they spray money to distract people from following them. So, when they spray the money, people will be more focused on picking it up than following the armed robbers. It gives them the opportunity to flee the crime scene. These are experts with years of experience. These were not amateurs, and someone had also given them information from within the shop that had been robbed.
