GIADEC refutes claims of selling VALCO to Ibrahim Mahama

GIADEC

The management of the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) has rejected reports alleging that the Volta Aluminium Company Limited (VALCO) is being sold to businessman Mr Ibrahim Mahama.

In an official statement released in Accra, GIADEC addressed claims made by a section of workers led by one Mr Samuel Watchman Agyeman, who alleged that the state-owned smelter was set to be transferred to private hands.

Describing the allegations as baseless and devoid of factual backing, the state agency clarified that no such transaction was taking place, emphasizing that the entity remains committed to a transparent retooling process.

“GIADEC categorically denies this allegation as baseless, misleading, and without any factual foundation,” the corporation stated in the release signed by its Chief Executive Officer, Reindorf Twumasi Ankrah.

Setting the record straight, GIADEC noted that neither Mr Ibrahim Mahama nor any corporate entity linked to him has indicated an intention to acquire or invest in the aluminum manufacturing company.

“Neither Mr. Ibrahim Mahama nor any company associated with him has expressed any interest in the ongoing process to secure strategic equity capitalization for the retooling and modernization of VALCO,” the statement highlighted.

The state body reaffirmed the commitment of the Government of Ghana to execute a fair and open selection process to attract reputable international and local partners capable of transforming the smelter into a competitive regional hub.

“The Government of Ghana, through GIADEC, remains committed to a transparent process aimed at attracting credible strategic partners to retool VALCO and position it as the anchor smelter in Ghana’s integrated aluminium industry,” Mr Twumasi Ankrah added.

GIADEC further appealed to the public, sector stakeholders, and the workforce of VALCO to disregard the rumors, cautioning individuals against making false declarations aimed at inciting disaffection and delaying national development agenda.

The corporation pledged to keep the Ghanaian public informed with accurate updates as the competitive search for strategic partners for VALCO progresses.
