The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has revealed that the mortal remains of Nigerian boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun have been airlifted to Nigeria for burial.
President of the GBA, Abraham Kotei Neequaye, disclosed that the Authority had to bear the cost of airlifting the boxer without any support from the Ministry of Sports.
He revealed that the flight that airlifted him left from Ghana, arrived first in Togo, and was expected to leave Togo for Lagos around 3:00pm today.
According to him, a delegation of 57 persons representing the GBA will be in Lagos to officially hand over the body to the bereaved family.
He stated categorically that a donation of $1,500 was handed over to the family from the GBA. The flight that airlifted him, the casket, and any other costs were paid for by the GBA. The Ministry of Sports has not supported us in anything. We have not received even Ghc10 from the Ministry.
He was worried and disappointed that the sports ministry found money for setting up a committee to investigate the death of the boxer but failed to support the GBA with any resources to cater for the preparations to send the late boxer back to Nigeria.
‘’ For me, I am not happy with the way the ministry has treated GBA when it comes to this issue. We are telling them that Karma is not a police officer, but at the right time, it will arrest you. This is the message I am giving to the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.”
