Two individuals have died in a fire that destroyed a carpentry shop at Penkwasi, a suburb of the Sunyani East Municipality in the Bono Region.
The deceased have been identified as Reagan Kofi Atuahene and Alhassan Sherif Majeed.
According to details emerging, the two were trapped inside the burning structure and could not escape. Their bodies have since been taken to the Sunyani Teaching Hospital morgue.
The fire is said to have started around midnight.
The Ghana National Fire Service has launched
an investigation into the incident.
The Bono Regional Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service, ACFO II Cecil Risch Addo, told the media that investigations are underway to establish the exact cause of the blaze.
“We have started investigations, and we are getting a clue to what happened. They should be assured that the bare facts will be laid before everybody,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the remains of the deceased have been deposited at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital morgue.
