Highlife musician Kaakyire Kwame Appiah has cautioned that it is premature to criticize President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.
The musician argued that the President requires sufficient time in office before any fair and constructive appraisal of his performance can be made.
Although a staunch and long-standing member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Appiah expressed strong confidence that former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia would prove to be an exceptional President if given the opportunity.
Nonetheless, he reiterated his belief that it is still too early to subject President Mahama to criticism.
He suggested that for any evaluation to be truly fair, the current government should be given until 2026 or 2027.
He noted that criticism at that point would be based on the administration’s quantifiable achievements, identified shortcomings, and encountered difficulties.
”I have a firm belief that Dr. Bawumia is capable of managing this country; however, it is also too early to criticize President John Dramani Mahama. He is barely a year in office, and we must therefore grant him time. Personally, I cannot criticize him at this juncture. Let’s give him time; perhaps we can fairly and constructively criticize him from 2026 or 2027. If he underperforms by then, we will criticize him. If he excels at his job, we will commend him.”
Appiah said that the ultimate concern is the nation’s welfare, stating: “At the end of the day, we are talking about Ghana and not individual interests. If President Mahama performs well, it will be to the benefit of all Ghanaians.” He acknowledged the commendable work of former President Akufo-Addo, appealing to President Mahama to continue and complete the projects that the previous administration could not complete.
Kaakyire Kwame Appiah admitted his enduring political affiliation:”I have been a member of the NPP since 1992. We all have our political affiliations, and it is unhealthy for anyone to insult others simply because they belong to a different side. I have served as a polling agent for the party. I believe in the ideologies of the NPP, and I have remained a committed member and supporter.”
