Emergency responders are currently battling a heavy fire involving a fuel tanker at the Kpone Barrier.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), six fire tenders have been deployed to the scene to extinguish the inferno and contain the spread.

The joint response team includes crews from the Free Zones, Tema Industrial Area, BOST, Ashaiman, Tema Regional Headquarters, and Motorway fire stations.

Emergency operations remain active, and motorists heading toward the Kpone Barrier stretch are urged to exercise caution and yield to arriving emergency vehicles.

Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, a member of the Public Relations Department, ADOI Alex King Nartey, said the cause of the blaze is currently under investigation.

He noted that officers deployed to the scene arrived within five minutes of receiving the distress call.

He further revealed that the officers were dispatched from a recently commissioned fire station.

According to him, unconfirmed reports suggest the driver and his mate may have been burnt in the inferno.

”That has not been confirmed. We are yet to do so. After we have brought the fire under control, we can then confirm if the two were trapped and burnt. Also, nobody has come forward to identify themselves as the driver,” he added.

He assured the public that the officers have done their best to prevent the fire from spreading to other vehicles or nearby buildings.
