Panic and anxiety swept through Kronum “New York”, a community within the Suame Municipality of the Ashanti Region, earlier today following the grim discovery of an unidentified man’s corpse in the Owabi River.
The shocking sight was uncovered around 9:00 am by local commuters on their way to work, marking a unsettling first for the tranquil neighbourhood.
Eye witnesses reported that the deceased, believed to be middle-aged, was floating face down near the riverbank.
Initial efforts by bystanders to recognize the victim yielded no results, leading many to believe he was an outsider.
Speaking to Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, a distraught resident expressed the collective shock of the enclave, noting that the unfamiliarity of the victim only heightened the community’s distress after the morning discovery.
Another local echoed these concerns, emphasizing that the locality had never witnessed such a distressing tragedy, leaving people worried about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Officers from the Suame District Police Command swiftly responded to the distress call, taking charge of the scene before removing the body to the mortuary for preservation and a post-mortem examination.
The Ghana Police Service has launched a full investigation to determine the man’s identity and establish the exact cause of death, while urging members of the public with reports of missing relatives to contact the police promptly.
