The Ministry of Health has instructed Ghana Health Service (GHS) to submit a detailed report on the investigation into the alleged abandonment of a patient at Gomoa Ojobi, Central Region in thirty days.
The sector Minister Dr Bernard Okoe Boye has instructed the committee formed by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to investigate the matter submit the report within 30 days.
The committee consists of the Deputy Director-General of GHS, a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon from Ridge Hospital, officials from the Ministry of Health and the Social Welfare Department, and a senior nurse management.
The committee’s responsibility is to investigate the complete circumstances of the case and suggest appropriate action.
The investigation will centre on determining the patient’s identification and background, analysing the events that led to the patient’s admittance to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital, and looking into the hospital’s diagnosis and management.
The committee has also be asked to investigate the processes involved in the patient’s discharge and transportation to Ojobi, identify all individuals involved in these actions, and report on any other relevant issues arising from the incident.
The Health Minister tasked the committee with a comprehensive investigation to uncover all aspects of the case and ensure accountability.
The committee is further expected to design comprehensive suggestions to prevent similar incidents and enhance patient care quality in healthcare facilities under the GHS.
