A 35-year-old teacher by the name of Teacher Gayo from Techiman has allegedly committed suicide over debt.
The teacher, who was known as a serial better, is said to have taken his life over his inability to pay his debts and loans.
Details emerging indicate that the teacher took several loans from different banks and was unable to pay them, hence the decision to take his life.
Aside from the bank loans he took, which were due for payment, Teacher Gayo is said to have also taken loans from friends and his landlord.
The situation was serious to the point that he left home at dawn and came home late at night.
Before taking his life, Teacher Gayo called a friend and told him he was going through a serious financial crisis due to his addiction to betting.
He had also confessed through the call that all the loans he took from the banks and his friends were used for betting and nothing fruitful.
Reporting from the area on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM, our reporter, Kwame Adez, revealed the teacher’s rent was due aside from the loan he had taken from the landlord.
“I feel embarrassed speaking to you about this,” he remarked in parts of his call. Because of my gambling addiction, I have borrowed money from various people, including my landlady. I have been unable to attend school for the past three weeks. I am having difficulty repaying the loan I obtained from my landlord.
I’m unable to repay my loans. I’m humiliated. I have no choice but to consume poison and perish. I don’t have anywhere else to go or someone to turn to. I’m at a crossroads. I have no money for meals, so kindly assist me with even Ghc100. I beseech you. I’m starving while I chat with you.”
