The Ghana Red Cross Society (GRCS), the national humanitarian organization of Ghana has appealed to the public to support the Society to enable it to meet its core mandate of helping society.
Public Relations Officer for the Society, Samuel Adobah, said the support was crucial since they depended largely on the benevolence of the corporate world to fulfil its mission of saving lives, caring for the underprivileged, and undertaking rescue missions.
He urged individuals, corporations, and organizations to support them to work effectively and meet their targets.
He extended the society’s sincere appreciation to all their partners, including governments, organisations, and individuals, who have contributed to their cause.
He reiterated the society’s dedication to its humanitarian mission and expressed optimism for their continued partnership to positively impact the lives of those they serve.
Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he said the Red Cross Society will continue to serve humanity.
He said they have dedicated the month of May to raising awareness in our markets, communities, and other areas about the need for first aid.
He announced that they will also go to schools to educate students on the need for first aid, adding that first aid is crucial in the delivery of quality healthcare.
He went on to state that they are also part of efforts to raise awareness against flooding since that is not only the reserve for the National Disaster Management Organisation.
Meanwhile, he has advised Ghanaians to ensure that the 2024 presidential and parliamenatry elections are organised in a free, fair, and transparent manner.
He advised stakeholders to pledge towards peace before, during, and after the elections.
He said we need to preserve our peace and our status as a democratic country.
“This is an election year; this is a period when Ghanaians would be going to vote, and at the same time, this is a period when Ghanaians are complaining of economic hardship. We need to ensure that the electoral processes are organised in a free, fair and transparent manner. We do not want a situation where the processes would be marred with violence and the Red Cross would be called to intervene.
Also, while we are in the rainy season, we encourage the people to keep safe and avoid engaging in activities that could put them in danger. We also ask the media to always give us the opportunity to educate Ghanaians. They do not need to wait until the annual event to contact us. We are appealing to them to provide us opportunities on a regular basis,” he added.
The Red Cross Society is also a member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, which is the world’s largest humanitarian network. The organisation’s mission is to prevent and alleviate human suffering, protect life and health, and promote human dignity during times of emergencies and disasters.
