Bereaved family and residents of Dumanafo in the Kwabre East Municipality of the Ashanti Region have been shocked when a departed relative’s hand was severed by unknown individuals.
The deceased’s body was lying in state in the area, but unknown individuals cut his hand.
Reporting from the area on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Isaac Agyenim Boateng said an undertaker was hired to prepare the body for it to be laid in-state.
After the process, the undertaker left, and the ceremony started.
However, it was later discovered that one of the hands of the deceased had been severed.
This sent shockwaves through the mourning family, sympathisers, and residents who had come to pay their final respects.
It remains unclear who is behind the unfortunate incident.
He stated that the undertaker prepared the body in the open, hence he could not have severed the hand.
It has also emerged that the boy was moved from where it was placed before the hand was severed.
The incident was reported to the police and the traditional authorities.
The report indicated that traditional leaders led by the Chief of Dumanafo, Owusu Kwarteng II, performed some rites by pouring libations and invoking curses on those who engaged in the act.
The traditional authority also fined the family GHc2,000, a schnapp, some eggs, and other items for the pacification.
They were sanctioned for failing to guard the body of the deceased and allowing it to be desecreted.
The authorities lamented that the incident has brought a bad omen to the community.
Some are speeding up rumours that the deceased was a member of an occult group, and his members may have come to remove the hand.
The deceased has been identified as Clement Osei Kofi.
The traditional leaders have also asked families in the area to guard their deceased relatives when they lay them in state to avoid such an incident in the future.
Meanwhile, the community’s Chief Priest has vowed to assist the family in identifying the individual who amputated the hand if they consult with him.
