Private legal practitioner Tweneboa Koduah is questioning the reasons why some have suggested Madam Anne Sansa Daly after she was discovered to be a fake doctor.
The lawyer stated that before prosecuting someone, there must be grounds for prosecution or the person must have committed acts that violate Ghanaian laws.
Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he quizzed, “What wrong has she committed?” Before prosecuting someone, there have to be grounds for the prosecution, or the person should have engaged in activities in breach of our laws. So, my question is, did she violate the law? If she has broken our laws, we need to know exactly what she did before deciding whether she can be prosecuted.
He noted that ”Has anyone conducted an investigation to prove that she is a fake medical doctor as alleged? Which organisation conducted the investigation? Has anyone investigated whether she is operating with a fake licence? Has any authority probed the matter to show clearly that she is a fake doctor? Some claim she is a qualified doctor in the USA, but not in Ghana. Did she practise in Ghana without a licence? She claimed to be a doctor, which may be true. We cannot dispute the fact that she is a practising doctor in the US if that’s true. If she cannot practise in Ghana and did so, that would be against our laws. Someone can be a lawyer in the US but cannot practise in Ghana; it doesn’t rule out that the person is a lawyer, but if they practise without a licence, it’s unlawful.”
Therefore, we have to ask if the lady has claimed to be a doctor and whether she is practising in the country. ‘Has she consulted and advised anyone medically? And then we can proceed on the way forward,’’ he added.
Background
The President, John Dramani Mahama, revoked the appointment of Anne Sansa Daly from the Board of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).
In a formal statement from the Office of the President, Prof Dr (Med) Ernest Yorke has been nominated as Daly’s replacement.
Although the reasons behind the revocation were not explicitly stated, speculation surrounds controversy over her credentials. Concerns had been raised by professionals regarding Daly’s qualifications and her ability to effectively serve on the NHIA board.
