A 24-year-old nursing mother, Mary Tawiah, has been apprehended for allegedly attempting to administer a poisonous substance to her one-year-old son.
The incident occurred on Sunday, June 29, 2025, following a heated dispute with her 27-year-old fiancée, Kobby Nbelenbele, over allegations of infidelity.
According to reports, Mary and Kobby, residents of Teshie, Greater Accra, had a disagreement at Kasoa after Kobby was seen with another woman.
In a fit of rage, Mary threatened to harm her child and attempted to give the child a poisonous substance (Powerzone).
However, market women intervened, preventing the act and reporting the incident to the Kasoa police, which led to the arrest. Mary repeatedly told the police that her fiancé had cheated on her, leading her to commit the desperate act.
The fiancée was subsequently brought in for further questioning and is currently in the care of the district police headquarters at Kasoa.
Meanwhile, the baby has been returned to Mary Tawiah after she was cautioned and granted bail. The investigation is ongoing, with Mary instructed to report to the station earlier on Monday.
